Building Careers, Not Just Skills: Inside Reel Works’ Train and Earn Program

MediaMKRS launches the DYCD funded Train & Earn Program, an innovative work readiness program for youth participants.

At Reel Works, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. That’s why our Train and Earn Program was created—to bridge the gap between raw potential and meaningful employment. Designed for young adults facing barriers to employment, this program connects participants with hands-on training, industry exposure, and direct job opportunities in film, media, and beyond.

What Is the Train and Earn Program?

Train and Earn is a workforce development initiative for NYC youth ages 16-24 who are not in school or employed. The program focuses on equipping participants with both technical skills and the soft skills needed to thrive in the workforce.

Participants gain:

  • Industry-recognized credentials

  • Career exploration opportunities

  • Resume building and interview coaching

  • Paid internships or on-the-job training

  • Ongoing support and mentorship

  • Access to social services

But most importantly, they gain the confidence and connections needed to launch careers—not just land jobs.

Why It Matters

Too many young people—especially those from underserved communities—struggle to find their footing in the job market. Traditional education pathways don’t work for everyone.

Train and Earn offers an alternative: a culturally responsive, industry-informed approach that meets young adults where they are to help propel them into industries that excite them.

What’s Next?

We’re growing. From expanding our curriculum, deepening employer partnerships, and launching an alumni network to provide long-term career support, the Train and Earn program is scaling its impact. We believe every young person deserves a shot at meaningful work—and with your support, we’re making that vision real, one career at a time.

Want to get involved?

Whether you’re an employer, funder, educator, or future participant, we want to hear from you. Let’s build a more inclusive workforce—together.
