Horror & Sci-Fi

At the end of this course you will know the fundamentals of scripting, the phases of production, film editing, view various narrative styles from international filmmakers, and ultimately produce and edit a short project showcasing your directing and writing style.

Art of Comedy

In this course students will explore what makes films funny! We will be watching comedy clips and learning more about what makes us laugh. Students will learn about the art of satire, romantic comedy, dark humor, slapstick humor, and high comedy. Students will ultimately produce and edit a short comedic film using a professional camera, lights, and sound.

AI

Students are sharpening their storytelling skills by generating images through an online AI application. Students have to be specific in their descriptions when giving commands to the AI generator - which encourages media literacy and enables them to tell their story using unique visuals.  Students are using the AI-generated images to develop storyboards, which will then be applied to AI again, in order to create moving images.

Whether the course focuses on documentary, narrative, animation or other storytelling mediums, all Reel Works courses include a significant amount of time exploring story structure, personal voice, and the importance of artistic choices. MediaMKRS Badges are awarded in all classrooms to assist and celebrate student filmmaking skills. Practical, hands-on, exercises in each course keep students engaged as they learn to master filmmaking technology.  All our workshop courses are taught by filmmakers, with a background in education, who receive professional development and training through our own Teaching Artist University.
