Career Lab

LAUNCH A CAREER IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY!

Career Lab is a PAID summer program designed for high school students who are passionate about making media their career. The program combines workshops, panels, and visits to media companies, allowing participants to gain insight into the media industry and meet seasoned professionals. Career Lab also offers a paid internship opportunity.

The Career Lab program is 7 weeks long and broken down into two sections. 

The first section takes place from July 8th to July 25th. This portion of the program provides participants with work readiness skills and ample networking opportunities with industry professionals.

The second section runs from July 29th until August 29th. Participants will partake in an internship matchmaking fair and be placed within a summer internship. Internships are approximately 20 hours a week; participants will typically be scheduled 4 days out of the week and work 5-hour shifts.

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Career Lab participants will have the opportunity to learn from media professionals and gain the skills necessary to pursue a career in media.

  • Participants receive stipends to support their participation in the program. All participants are paid $16 an hour for the class time and internship time.

Important Dates:

Application Window: April 1st, 2024 until May 30th, 2024

Workshop Days and Times: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 9:30am-2:30pm

Eligibility:

  • Must be a rising high school junior or senior (a.k.a. current sophomore or junior)

  • Eligible to work in the US 

  • Able to provide working papers if accepted into the program

  • MUST be able to commit to completing entire program, which includes completing a full 100 hour internship

  • Must reside within commuter distance of Reel Works

  • Motivated and eager to explore media careers

  • Ability to travel independently and in small group settings
