Reel Works Productions is a youth-run production company specializing in high quality, low-cost media for NYC nonprofits, government agencies and production companies.

Lead by our award-winning young filmmakers under the guidance of professional filmmaker-mentors, Reel Works Productions has created original documentaries, educational shorts, corporate media and fundraising videos. Recent clients include  NYC Mayor's Office, Microsoft, WNET Thirteen, Time Warner, Adobe, Day One, Youth Communication and many small nonprofits.

In addition, Reel Works' youth producers have created over 20 episodes of Reel Works With Byron Hurt and other programming for NYC-Life (Channel 22/25).

In the process, Reel Works provides professional and career training to the next generation of media makers.

Become a Youth Producer

To become a youth producer, you must be a graduate of The Lab or comparable filmmaking program and be fluent in Final Cut Pro and video production. Applicants may be asked to submit samples of their work and references. 

Classes Meet

Reel Works Productions is not just a class, it's a real job. Youth Producers work 20 hours a week at a schedule they set with the Executive Producer. Team members meet twice a week for production meetings, attend workshops to strengthen their skills and work directly with paying clients to manage individual projects. Youth Producers are selected for Fall, Spring and Summer sessions.
