Reel Works In Schools brings our award-winning filmmaking workshops into the classrooms of NYC public schools.
In 2010-2011, Reel Works will serve over 80 middle and high school students and provide professional training to dozens of NYC teachers to use the power of filmmaking to engage young people and enhance academic learning.

Frederick Douglas Academy, Harlem. One of the city's leading public high schools renown for its academic standards. Over a two-year period, Reel Works will provide a trained media educator, guest filmmakers, curriculum and materials to train high school students and faculty in the art of documentary filmmaking.
Arturo Schomberg Satellite Academy, Bronx. An alternative school for Bronx teens who have had difficulty in traditional high school settings. The school's goal is to engage students through filmmaking to develop literacy, critical thinking and technology skills, while creating a self-sustaining filmmaking program over time.
Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School, Bedford-Suyvesant. A Reel Works partner since 2006 – sending over a dozen of its students to participate in our after-school workshops. We will create an after-school workshop to mentor young men of color in the production of short personal narrative documentaries as part of a broader curriculum initiative, entitled From Africa to Brooklyn. This initiative will invite students to research the African diaspora and explore their cultural heritage through different media.
West Prep Academy Middle School, Upper West Side, Manhattan. The goal of this partnership is to infuse technology and the theme of Youth Voice Through Media into its 7th grade classrooms. To achieve this, we will develop a filmmaking curriculum, train teachers in technology and filmmaking skills so they can use media projects to enhance academic coursework, and create an elective class in documentary filmmaking.
Reel Works In Schools helps schools create successful, self-sustaining youth media programs.
