Reel Works is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student to participate in a part-time,
unpaid Development & Communications Internship during the Summer 2012 semester.
The intern will be exposed to a wide range of filmmaking and youth development
experiences. The intern's primary responsibilities will be to assist the Executive Director
and Program Director in generating communications with donors (including an electronic newsletter, periodic written appeals and thank you letters), planning toward an annual benefit, maintaining the organizations' social networking sites and web presence, as well as other development projects. The intern will be responsible for organizing materials, maintaining databases, and drafting letters and other solicitations. We are happy to assist interns in receiving class credit where applicable.
The accepted candidate will be expected to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week
from May through August 2012. Our office is located in the Gowanus section of
Brooklyn. Excellent organizational skills and verbal and written communication ability
are required. Experience or qualifications in web communications or fundraising are a
plus.
Seeking a proactive, service-focused and committed office assistant to support a busy documentary filmmaking non-profit office located in the Gowanus area of Brooklyn. The ideal candidate will possess a variety of administrative abilities including: excellent customer service, problem solving, communication, organizational, time management, prioritization and computer skills.
Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate a sense of urgency and initiative; be a true team player with a "do whatever it takes to get the job done" attitude; and be able to work effectively with diverse and demanding personalities.
Equipment Management
- Maintain logs of equipment signed out to students - Troubleshoot malfunctions, and handle repairs when necessary - Assist in training students in proper handling and use of equipment - Assist in acquiring new equipment to facilitate program growth - Tracking levels of expendables, and replenishing stock of needed items - Checking, shutting down, and storing equipment at end of program day - Software installation and management
Program Administration
- On-Site support for Executive Director, Program Director, and Lab Educators - Technical support for in-program activities - Compiling post-production work, and final preparation of material for presentation - Assistance in preparation of events, and on-site support in their duration - Archiving of material for future accessibility - Production of post-program media (screeners, class DVDs, etc.)
Facilities Management
- Answer, screen, route and respond to phone calls as appropriate - Maintain cleanliness of lab and surrounding areas - Physical preparation of space for events - Management/organization of storage facility - Order fulfillment - Assistance with special administrative projects - Messenger service - Photocopy, scan, bind, fax and file documents as necessary. Prepare large mailings. - Opening facility on days when other staff are unavailable. - Appointment and calendar management. Maintain contact database. - Conduct internet research when needed.
Outreach and Distribution
- Contact students to inform them about programs, and encourage attendance - Assist Program Director in coordinating special projects that arise outside of schedule - Communicate with students holding lab equipment - Outreach with mentors for support in coordinating lab activities in off-hours - Communicating with outside parties for special media requests
