Reel Works Teen Filmmaking seeks accomplished DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION to join our in-house full time staff.

Director of Education

Reel Works Teen Filmmaking seeks an Education Director to coordinate and manage all after school and in-school youth media programs.

The Education Director is responsible for all classroom activities including curriculum design, instruction and working with the Executive Director to design and coordinate assessments.

  • Hire and manage teaching artists on site and off site
  • Create/oversee the creation of curricula for all programs
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and other education partners
  • Fosters a supportive, accountable and fun work environment
  • Monitor and maintain the media equipment & oversee the distribution of program supplies
  • Maintaining/enhancing the outcomes assessment tools and protocols at Reel Works
  • Lead occasional workshops for students and trainings for educators
  • Assist ED in development of new program initiatives

 

Candidates must have extensive youth media experience and basic filmmaking and FCP skills.  Candidates must be knowledgeable of the youth media field and dedicated to helping Reel Works strengthen core workshops, innovate and develop new programs to fulfill our mission to serve NYC youth.

 

Full Time. Salary commensurate with experience.

DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTION

Reel Works Productions is a youth-run production company specializing in high quality, low-cost media for NYC nonprofits, government agencies and major corporations.

The Director of Production leads talented youth producers through a challenging, career training curriculum designed to prepare them for work in the film and television industry, leads instruction and works with the Executive Director and Program Director to design and coordinate assessments.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, The Director of Production is responsible for managing the day-to-day progress of all Reel Works productions projects, including:

  • Client management
  • Client development and sales
  • Oversee quality of all productions
  • Hire and manage all production crews.
  • Foster a supportive, accountable and fun work environment.
  • Monitor & maintain the media equipment
  • Create/oversee the creation of curricula
  • Lead training workshops
  • Secure volunteers and guest artists to participate in projects and lead workshops.
  • Create/oversee program budget

Qualifications:

To be successful, candidates must have:

  • Experience teaching high school youth
  • Extensive production experience in film and television, especially documentary filmmaking
  • Experience developing and managing clients
  • Advanced filmmaking skills in video production and Final Cut Pro editing.
  • Budgeting skills
  • Project management skills to handle a busy production calendar


FILMMAKING INSTRUCTOR

Reel Works In Schools places teaching artists in NYC public schools to deliver documentary and narrative workshops during the school day and after school.

Reel Works Filmmaking Instructors lead a demanding curriculum in film storytelling, camera technique and Final Cut Pro Editing and are engaged in recruiting, selecting and guiding a diverse and challenging group of young filmmakers.

Candidates must have extensive professional filmmaking and teaching experience and excellent technical skills. Most importantly, our instructors must engage, challenge and inspire young storytellers to achieve the excellence they are capable of. These are part time positions, 20 hours a week. At Reel Works, we believe that filmmaking should be taught by filmmakers. We seek accomplished artists who can lead, inspire and demand the creative excellence that our young filmmakers are capable of delivering. For our In-Schools programs, teaching experience in NYC public schools is essential.

Our filmmaking workshops seek not only to create great short films, but to teach important life skills of communication, self-expression and self-esteem that are essential for young people to succeed. Working with at-risk youth can be emotionally challenging. A knowledge of the principals of youth development, a high degree of self-awareness, strong personal boundaries and the ability to ask for help are all essential skills.

Hours- In Schools: 10-20 Hours/Week – will vary for each project.

Salary: These are part time positions that does not include health benefits. Competitive salary commensurate with experience in filmmaking, technical skills, teaching and youth development. September-July.
