10th Anniversary Gala Benefit

 

A DECADE OF HELPING TEENS STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Dear Friends,

Thank you for being with us on Tuesday, September 20th, at our 10th Anniversary Gala Benefit. What an inspiring night it was!

As Steve Buscemi shared from the podium in speaking about his wife, Filmmaker, Jo Andres :

"...What's really great is when Jo does workshops with them [Reel Works], when she comes back she's just so energized and so excited and when I think of what it does to the people who give the workshops and the mentors who volunteer, it really does something for them too because these kids are so inspiring..."

The night of the event, we raised $24,000 in our silent auction and from on-the-spot donations!  We also gave out the first annual F. John Outcalt Award for Outstanding Filmmaking to Spring 2009 Lab Graduate, Marco Tepox for his film, "Sin Marcha Atras" a story about teen pregnancy in the Latino community.

With your support, Reel Works will bring our innovative programs into NYC classrooms, train the next generation of media makers and share their stories with a million viewers nationwide. 

As Comedian/Musician, Reggie Watts reminded us :

"Getting young people involved in anything creative is hugely important.  Half of who I am is my childhood and the support i got doing creative activities."
