Making a film is just a personal exercise until the filmmaker presents his or her work before a real audience. Reel Impact is a comprehensive distribution program in which teen filmmakers learn how to bring their stories to new audiences through broadcast, web-cast, film festivals and community screenings.

A student-led committee responsible for over 100 films in our film library submits films to festivals and broadcasters throughout the year. Teens curate and program the www.reelworks.org website as well as a dedicated channel on partner site, AOL True Stories. Students must also bring their films to their own high schools to share with their peers.

Through partnerships with educators and non-profits working with teens, our student’s films are used as educational tools on subjects such as teen pregnancy, teen depression, confronting racism and more. Over two million people have seen our work since 2005 and over 60% of all films produced in the Lab find audiences outside our immediate community.

Summer Lab:
The Summer Lab is a free, four-week intensive filmmaking workshop for teens aged 14-17.

Taught by award-wining Reel Works graduates, Summer Lab students work in teams to write, direct, shoot and edit short films, music videos and documentaries. Learn advanced digital video camera techniques and cut your movies using i-Movie editing. All classes are hands-on and fun. No filmmaking experience is required.

Twenty-five teens will be chosen for the Summer Lab. Upon completion, twelve filmmakers will be selected to participate in The Lab, beginning in September.

Summer Lab takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from July 16th through August 10th, 2007.
